Saige Losli is a student of Torah—the Creator’s instructions to His people.

The grandson of Assembly of God pastors, Saige grew up in A/G churches, and even in early adulthood began to serve his local church as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and Secretary-Treasurer for the congregation.

In 2007, I was conducting a weekly prayer meeting at our home church—then called, “Christ Community Church”. It was a time of wrestling for me: “Who am I? What am I here for? Where am I going?”

Most weeks, I was alone in the sanctuary of the church, attempting to hear something from the Father, but it felt like a fruitless endeavor. I laid prostrate on the floor. I prayed. I wept. I read the Word out loud. Nothing came of it.

One Saturday night, something changed. As was often my practice, I laid upon the floor—praying, weeping, reading the Word out loud. But this time I was reading from a passage of Scripture that was, I am ashamed to admit, quite unfamiliar to me. It was Vayikra (Leviticus) chapter 23.

As I was reading the text, something almost other-worldly began to engulf me. I cannot say that this literally happened, but if there is a reality that is one-step short of literal, then that is what I think it was. The sanctuary of the church was dimly lit, but as I read this passage, it was almost as if the words printed in black ink were illuminated from behind the page with a gentle but potent yellow light—as if each verse was emblazoned with emphasis!

The chapter I read describes the seventh-day sabbath and the seven annual feasts. Paraphrasing, here are the words I saw that compelled me to pay attention.

There are my feasts ... for my people ... where ever you live ... throughout all your generations.

In that moment, a powerful illusion began to collapse in me. This passage is not referring to “the feasts of the Jews”, as is commonly understood. It is referring to His feasts, for His people, everywhere, and throughout all time.

Even though I was alone that night, I blurted out,

“Wait a minute! I'm one of your people, aren't I? Why have we never done this?”

My friends, this moment marked the beginning of a journey for me that I believe is leading me closer to the Father's heart. I came to realize that certain doctrines that I had learned actually oppose the plain instructions of the Creator to His people. I have also come to realize that nothing is more important to a man or woman that belongs to Him than His instructions

Because of this paradigm-shifting experience, Saige has begun reading the Torah, the Prophets and the Psalms with a new vigor.

Saige is currently a student of the Hebrew language, and he is working to make the Scriptures more accessible and interesting to believers at every stage in their walk.
